Task Force Aster was one of the original five task forces of the New Republic Fifth Battle Group, and was created some time before 16 ABY.
It was commanded by Commodore Brand. Task Force Aster was completely composed of New Class warships.
This particular task force was composed of only eighteen warships compared to the standard twenty-one warships.
A three-ship detachment of Task Force Aster was assigned to recon the system of ILC-905 during the Black Fleet Crisis. The recon group lost the Warrior-class gunship Vanguard, and dozens of E-wings, X-wings, and K-wings.
