The clan's members included the family of Cham Syndulla which was made up of his wife Eleni Syndulla, their daughter Hera Syndulla and her brother, who died whilst he was still young. Cham was a prominent Twi'lek revolutionary who led the Twi'lek Resistance against the Confederacy of Independent Systems and eventually led the Free Ryloth Movement against the Galactic Empire. During the time of the Clone Wars, Cham's wife, Eleni, hid their daughter Hera underground while the Separatist Droid Army occupied their homeworld. When the Republic's Clone Army came, the young Twi'lek looked up at their ships and dreamed of becoming a pilot.
During the Battle of Ryloth, a BTL Y-wing starfighter crashed in front of the Syndulla residence. The pilot was dead but Hera managed to pull the astromech droid, named C1-10P "Chopper", from the crash site and befriended him.
At some point during the reign of the Galactic Empire, Eleni Syndulla died and Hera decided to leave Ryloth to pursue her dreams of flying, causing strain in her relationship with her father.

At some point, Hera Syndulla and Chopper of the Syndulla clan would meet a surviving member of the Jedi Order, who was in hiding due to being hunted by the Empire after Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine declared the Jedi traitors to the Republic and enemies of the Empire. Formerly Jedi Padawan Caleb Dume, he now went by the name Kanan Jarrus. Together they would fight against the Empire aboard Syndulla's modified VCX-100 light freighter known as the Ghost. Syndulla and Jarrus eventually began a romantic relationship. Throughout the reign of the Empire, Jarrus and Syndulla would meet Lasat warrior Garazeb Orrelios, Mandalorian artist Sabine Wren, and Force-sensitive orphan Ezra Bridger, and the crew became a family unit known as the Spectres. As such, Syndulla and Jarrus took up the role of parental figures to Wren and Bridger, guiding them to become good people and supporting them throughout the hardships of their lives. Over time the crew became more involved in the Rebellion, fighting against powerful individuals ranging from the Inquisitorius, to Grand Admiral Thrawn, eventually joining the wider Rebellion in forming the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In 1 BBY, Jarrus sacrificed his own life to save that of his new family, but not before conceiving a son Jacen Syndulla. In honor of Kanan, Hera added him into her family’s Kalikori, making him a member of the Syndulla clan. Bridger would later follow in Kanan’s footsteps, by guiding Thrawn out of the known galaxy.

Hera and Jacen would continue serving the Rebellion throughout the Galactic Civil War, and into the New Republic era. In roughly 9 ABY, Thrawn returned to the galaxy as heir to the Empire, and Hera and Jacen joined the conflict with their friend Ahsoka Tano, hoping to find Bridger, and take down the Grand Admiral once and for all.
By 5 ABY, Ryloth was freed from Imperial rule when the Empire abandoned its bases on the planet. Tekku Aylay, an elderly Twi'lek male thanked Cham, his Twi'lek resistance and individuals such as Yendor for freeing their homeworld.
Kanan’s legacy was never forgotten, as Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker looked up to Jarrus in his attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order, even chronicling his life in his own book The Secrets of the Jedi. By 35 ABY, the Ghost crew were still active, and could be seen participating in the Battle of Exegol. During the battle, Rey, the last Jedi, spoke out to the Jedi of the past, and Jarrus was one of many who answered. The Resistance ended up winning the battle, and the Republic and Jedi were able to live on.
