Swoop racing was a sport in which competitors would race swoops against one another. Shortly after the Battle of Yavin that occurred in 0 ABY, the smuggler Han Solo participated in a swoop race on the planet Rion in an attempt to win funds for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Several other participants in the race attempted to knock him from his vehicle so that they could claim a bounty on his head, but Solo ultimately emerged victorious.
