Sun-dragon

A sun-dragon was a mythical creature that would shield itself, guarding its treasures with the might of an exploding star. On hard nights, Shmi Skywalker would tell her son Anakin the story of the sun-dragon. To Shmi, Anakin was the sun-dragon. He had the strongest heart in the galaxy and it would always guide him to do what he needed, so long as he trust in it. It was a story Anakin kept extremely close to his heart and shared with very few other people. Skywalker also told Mill Alibeth of a myth from his childhood about the sun-dragon of Tatooine in order to steady her emotions. When Emperor Palpatine felt a disturbance in the Force and attempted to learn the source—the rebel Luke Skywalker—the current of the Force shielded itself much like a sun-dragon.

In the new Star Wars canon, the sun-dragon was first mentioned in the short story "Disturbance," written by Mike Chen and published in From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back in 2020. The sun-dragon was originally mentioned in the Star Wars Legends novelization of the film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, written by Matthew Stover and published in 2005. In Brotherhood, the heart of Anakin Skywalker is described as being like that of a sun-dragon. This comparison was also used the novelization of Revenge of the Sith.
