The transport's design bore resemblence to the Platoon Attack Craft used around two decades earlier by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars.
The stormtrooper transport first appeared in the 1997 Special Edition re-release of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, in which it can be seen flying in the atmosphere of Tatooine at a distance. It was first identified in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations.
