The book updates the Star Wars Legends The Empire Strikes Back junior novelization, which was written by Ryder Windham. Egmont editor Emil Fortune has edited the book to make it fit with the current canon.
2017 sees the 40th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: A New Hope, the film that launched the greatest space fantasy epic in history. To celebrate this, Egmont are publishing a set of junior novel adaptations of the original trilogy.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back states that Luke Skywalker hadn't heard Obi-Wan Kenobi's voice since the Battle of Yavin. However, he hears from Kenobi in The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure, Choose Your Destiny: A Luke & Leia Adventure, Star Wars (2015) 1, and Star Wars (2015) 14, which are set between these two events.
