Slyther Bushforb was created for the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones on May 16, 2002. The character was a redressed version of the animated model created for Ark Roose, a character created for the 1999 prequel film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Work on the animated shots in Dex's Diner was completed between April and May, 2001, with the finalized renders then completed over the summer.

In the current Star Wars canon, Bushforb's name was confirmed by Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo on Twitter on January 27, 2022. The name originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where was revealed prior to the release of the film in HoloNet News Vol. 531 #46, an March 7, 2002 issue published on the HoloNet News website as part of the marketing for the film.
