In 196 BBY, Silva participated in the tryouts for the Lightsaber Fencing Tournament. However, T-3PO, the protocol droid working at their school, accidentally distracted him while lamenting over the odds of Silva completing the hundred-meter dash in a few seconds. Mr. Garfield disqualified Silva, claiming that a Jedi needed to remain calm and focused. Cronah and Cyrus (Jedi Academy) made fun of him by making a parody of "Row Row Row your boat" to Roan.
A year later, Silva qualified for the Lightsaber Fencing Tournament, where he was pitted against Ronald Rinzler. Ronald let his guard down for one moment, and Silva provided the final blow.
