A sensor dome first appeared in the 2019 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, and was first identified in the accompanying reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo. A sensor dome was included in concept art of Carib Diss titled "Wizard 41" that was created by creature concept designer and senior sculptor Ivan Manzella for the film. In the concept art, the dome was black instead of gray and orange.
