Selnesh was a location where the convicted criminals Gapgrin Dozito and Sart Juloss each served 25-year sentences for attempted shipjacking. The sentence was listed on the pair's profiles, which were among a number of profiles seen by Marshal Carasynthia Dune when she searched for that of the criminal Migs Mayfeld around 9 ABY.

Selnesh was mentioned on a screen in "Chapter 14: The Tragedy" of Jon Favreau's Disney+ series The Mandalorian, directed by Robert Rodriguez and released on December 4, 2020. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the prison planet Selnesh first appeared in the short story "Do No Harm," written by Erin Endom which was released as part of Star Wars Adventure Journal 10 in May 1996.
