Sand Mynock 'n' Cheese


Sand Mynock 'n' Cheese was a pasta-like dish made with sand mynock tails and a rich cheese sauce. A chef served it as a specialty from his food freighter on the planet Sergia where the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs traded him Corellia Chews for the recipe during Tuggs' culinary tour of the galaxy between 34 ABY and 35 ABY. Tuggs modified the recipe with a crumble and Lira San Crackers and included it in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook.

Sand Mynock 'n' Cheese was a pasta-like dish that was made from yellow-colored sand mynock tails and a rich, creamy cheese sauce made from plain hundas' milk. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs' modified version of the dish also included a brown crumble on top and Lira San Crackers.

A chef native to the Inner Rim desert planet Sergia, homeworld of the plain hunda, made the dish as his specialty and served it from his food freighter. While making a culinary tour of the galaxy between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, Tuggs encountered the Sand Mynock 'n' Cheese–serving chef selling vittles from his freighter at a depot on Sergia and traded him a batch of Corellia Chews in exchange for the recipe for Sand Mynock 'n' Cheese.

Tuggs then modified the recipe by adding the crumble on top to provide a callback to the sands of Sergia and included this modified recipe in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published in 35 ABY. In the book, he also suggested adding Lira San Crackers to the dish to make it look like sand mynocks were bursting from a set of cheese dunes.

Behind the scenes


Sand Mynock 'n' Cheese was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the dish makes use of cavatappi pasta, unsalted butter, all-purpose flour, whole milk, half and half, dry mustard, garlic powder, paprika, seasoned salt, white pepper, shredded, mild cheddar cheese, and sharp white cheddar cheese for the pasta and then breadcrumbs, panko breadcrumbs, more unsalted butter, kosher salt, and Lira San Crackers—another recipe in the book—for the topping.
