In 21 BBY, Rod participated in the Battle of Malastare, serving as the gunner in Goji's Y-wing bomber. During the battle, he was able to shoot down multiple vulture droids. When Goji dropped the Republic's new electro-proton bomb, it deactivated the droid army, allowing the Republic to win the battle. However, the bomb also awoke the Zillo Beast.
Rod's name is a reference to the Japanese monster Rodan. His armor also depicts Rodan.
