A refinement tube was a component used in the Emperor-4 beam tube. Twelve refinement tubes were installed in the weapon, and the components helped to create and focus the high-energy particle beam in conjunction with four energy cyclers and four low-grade crystals. The refinement tubes were sensitive and easy to knock out of alignment. Reconfiguring the tubes to allow the weapon to function took almost four hours.
