The collapsed star remnant emitted toxic radiation which transmuted the cores of the broken planets into exotic materials that were later used as the building blocks for hypermatter fuel. Centuries after the supernova, the materials were mined during the waning days of the Galactic Republic and went on to supply the Republic's successor, the Galactic Empire, by the time of the Galactic Civil War.
