The Red Shoulders, who the main protagonist of the series was once apart of, were an elite unit of Armored Trooper soldiers with a reputation for deadly accuracy and complete disregard towards human life, civilian or otherwise. The members of Unit X-1 would paint the right shoulder armor of their Armored Trooper mecha red.
