Raltharan was a student at Jedi Master Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum on the moon Yavin 4. Master Corran Horn took Raltharan as an apprentice in 14 ABY at the same time that Jedi Jaden Korr and Rosh Penin were taken as apprentices by Jedi Master Kyle Katarn. Under Horn's tutelage, Raltharan achieved the rank of Jedi Knight.
Raltharan first appeared briefly in Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, a video game developed by Raven Software and released on September 16, 2003. In the game, the character's appearance is randomly generated and may either be a male Human, Rodian or Kel Dor or a female Human, Twi'lek or Zabrak. Raltharan was later mentioned in Troy Denning's novel Dark Nest II: The Unseen Queen published on September 27, 2005.
