R-A7

Biography

Manufactured by Arakyd Industries, R-A7 was an RA-7 protocol droid that served the Grand Army of the Republic at the Republic Center for Military Operations on the planet Coruscant during the Clone Wars. In the year 19 BBY, it and an astromech droid designated MR-T3 were having a discussion, R-A7 speaking Kyhhhsik and the other droid binary. The pair's conversation was interrupted when they rounded a corner and found themselves unintentionally obstructing the path of Padawan Ahsoka Tano. A fugitive escaping Republic custody at the military base, she vaulted over MR-T3 and sent the astromech spinning while an irate R-A7 shook a fist at the Jedi fleeing down the corridor.

Characteristics

Standing 1.7 meters in height, R-A7 had black plating with silver highlights and was equipped with a pair of broadband photoreceptors with antiglare coating, as well as a socket on the left side of its chest that functioned as an interface connection port.

Behind the scenes

R-A7 first appeared in "The Jedi Who Knew Too Much," the eighteenth episode of the canon animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars fifth season, which originally aired on February 16, 2013. It was voiced by Terrence Carson, who is credited as portraying a "mechanical voice." While R-A7 went unnamed in the episode itself, it was identified in a character illustration by Chris Glenn included in the Episode Guide for "The Jedi Who Knew Too Much" on StarWars.com, dated to November 2011. Its character model was a modified version of 4-A7's, updated to better match the appearance of the RA-7 protocol droids in the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
