Until BJ Hughes was confirmed to have been an alias for LaMarr, the person behind the name remained an unsolved mystery.

Biography

In 2009, when asked by The ForceCast, Lucasfilm was unable to find out who BJ Hughes was. In the following episode, when The ForceCast asked Dave Filoni who exactly BJ Hughes was, Filoni simply said that he replaced Ahmed Best as the voice of Jar Jar in the series and that that was about as far as he could go. Best later stated in an interview that he had decided to move on to other projects midway through The Clone Wars, necessitating that the role be recast.

In 2020, through a tweet Best referred to actor and comedian Phil LaMarr as the person who replaced him briefly as Jar Jar on The Clone Wars implying that Hughes is actually LaMarr. In an Avatar: The Last Airbender rewatch panel on Twitch hosted by actor Dante Basco and Honor Society, LaMarr confirmed that he voiced Binks before Best returned to the role.
