Persis IX

Persis IX was an Expansion Region world that was home to the sentient, worm-like Grindalid species. Its dense atmosphere blocked most of the light, to which the Grindalids' eyes and skin were highly sensitive.

Description

Persis IX, also known simply as Persis, was a world located in the regions known as the Expansion Region and the Trailing Sectors. It was situated in grid square L-15 of the Standard Galactic Grid. Persis IX occupied the ninth orbital position in its star system, and it was a gloomy, cloud-covered world. Its atmosphere was so dense that it filtered out most of the light.

History

At some point, Persis IX was referred to in an entry of an artist's journal dedicated to the world's native Grindalid species. The journal was eventually restored, expanded, and displayed at the Graf Archive at some point no earlier than 34 ABY. In the journal, the entry on the Grindalids was grouped together with passages describing species from humid habitats. Around the same time, Persis IX was also mentioned in the book Galactic Explorer's Guide, which was authored by the pirate Hondo Ohnaka and his protocol droid, DK-RA-43.

Inhabitants

Persis IX was the homeworld of the sentient, worm-like Grindalid species, which was adapted for living underwater. Their eyes were highly sensitive to light, and their skin burned upon contact with direct sunlight.

Behind the scenes

The Grindalid homeworld was first mentioned in Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide, a 2018 reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo. It was first identified as Persis IX by the 2019 book Star Wars: The Galactic Explorer's Guide by Jason Fry. A shortened version of the name was then introduced by a map created for the reference book Star Wars: Timelines and given out as a promotional poster at Celebration Anaheim on May 27, 2022 prior to the book's release during Celebration Europe of April 7 through 10, 2023.
