Imperial scientist Penn Pershing was born to a mother on an astronomical object. His mother was a doctor in their hometown. She later perished of heart failure, due to the planet lacking access on simple organ cloning technology, prompting Pershing to dedicate his life on the pursuit of perfecting cloning technology and making it available to the entire galaxy. Years later, Pershing recounted the story of her passing before a crowd in Coruscant's Galaxies Opera House as part of his participation in the New Republic Amnesty Program.
Her son spent days in her office as a child, dreaming of a high-tech laboratory, a story he would later recount to Elia Kane while collecting scientific supplies from a retired Star Destroyer.
