Patrolia was first mentioned in the Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion, a series of Star Wars Legends articles released on StarWars.com and written by Jason Fry. The world was initially mispelt as "Pitrolea", but Fry later clarified the spelling in a discussion on the Jedi Council Forums website. It was confirmed to be canon by the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, which was published in 2015.
