Palpatine's broadcast

A transmission broadcasting the voice of the late Emperor Palpatine, who was in truth the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, was delivered across the galaxy in 35 ABY. It was a message of revenge; no longer concerned with hiding his Sith identity following his resurrection, the reborn Darth Sidious declared that the day of the Sith was imminent, and that victory was near. At this time, the galaxy was engulfed in a war between the First Order and the Resistance, led respectively by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and General Leia Organa.

Ren subsequently undertook a search for answers, leading him to a mission to Mustafar in search of a path to the Emperor to confront this threat and secure his power.

Emperor Palpatine's broadcast was first heard in Fortnite X Star Wars, a collaborative event that took place in the virtual world of Fortnite. It was later canonically mentioned in the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the final installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. While also featured in Rae Carson's novelization, Carson stated that the broadcast was conceived by someone else, not by her nor the Fortnite developers.
