P2 (prototype astromech droid)

P2 shared its name with the P2 astromech unit, a tall droid model manufactured by the Industrial Automaton company decades before the Clone Wars.

P2 was depicted in the new Star Wars canon in the 2016 reference book, Star Wars: Complete Locations, in a section focusing on locations from. the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Originally published in the 2004 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy, that section was written by James Luceno and illustrated by Richard Chasemore and Hans Jenssen.

P2 first appeared moving to and fro behind the windows of Tosche Station in a deleted scene of A New Hope, with the film's script mentioning "a robot" that "repairs some equipment in the background." Although cut from the final film, the scene was included in its 2011 Blu-ray re-release.
