Omen

Description

The Omen was a Sith dreadnaught, a type of starship resembling a lanvarok in appearance. The dreadnaught was on at least one occasion used to carry the resources required for ore mining, although it was also classified as a warship. The vessel could carry an assortment of Blade-class starfighters. Also, as a Sith dreadnaught, the vessel was powerful—even by 41 ABY, when the vessels were thousands of years out of date, Sith dreadnaughts were seen as serious threats with ample firepower.

History

The Omen was a Sith dreadnaught in use by the Old Sith Empire during the time leading up to the Great Hyperspace War. In 5000 BBY, the Sith Lord Naga Sadow tasked the Omen, under the command of Captain Yaru Korsin, and another dreadnaught, the Harbinger, to mine Lignan ore for use in the upcoming invasion of the Galactic Republic. The two Sith vessels found Lignan in the largest moon of Phaegon III, but they were ambushed by a Jedi starfighter. Despite deploying their starfighters, the Jedi Infiltrator rammed the Harbinger, causing it to crash into the Omen right as the Omen jumped to hyperspace to flee. The collision knocked Omens jump off course, causing it to crash-land on the remote Wild Space planet of Kesh.

The Kesh Sith Temple was built over the Omen.

The Kesh Sith Temple was built over the Omen.

Soon after, a duel took place on the crash-site of the Omen between Yaru Korsin and his half-brother, Devore Korsin, when Devore tried to claim command of the Sith over Yaru. Yaru defeated Devore and retained control over the surviving Sith. Eventually, with help from the planet's native sentient species, the Keshiri—who believed the newcomers to be their gods, the Skyborn—they built a new temple over the ship's remains in the Takara Mountains. The Sith then began to mine the world in search of materials with which to rebuild the warship; however, such materials were never found, and the Sith remained stranded on the planet for over 5,000 years. The members of the Sith Tribe eventually began to call the vessel the "Ship of Destiny."

In 41 ABY, the Sith Meditation Sphere known as Ship arrived on Kesh and made contact with the Tribe. It took several of the Sith on missions to attack starships passing nearby, to raid them for parts to rebuild the Omen. Once it was repaired, the Omen became one of the first ships in the Tribe's new Sith armada.

Behind the scenes

The Omen was first introduced in Lost Tribe of the Sith: Precipice the first eBook in John Jackson Miller's Lost Tribe of the Sith series. The vessel was first identified as the "Ship of Destiny" in the second Fate of the Jedi novel, Fate of the Jedi: Omen.
