Oggdo

Biology and appearance

Oggdos were a non-sentient species of carnivore native to the planet Bogano. They had four legs and were seemingly amphibian in appearance, with thick lightsaber-resistant hide that encompassed their spike-topped body. Three bright green eyes were positioned above an enormous mouth, which featured jagged rows of sharp teeth. They sported a purple prehensile tongue, reportedly capable of extending up to eight meters in length, which they would use to latch onto and quickly devour small prey, or pull in larger prey to chew.

Behavior

Oggdos were threatening alpha predators of the Bogano food chain, with their primary diet consisting of bog rats. When they were too far away from their targets, they would either utilise their dangerously long prehensile tongues or leap towards them to close the distance.

History

In 14 BBY, Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis encountered several oggdos on Bogano whilst he journeyed to the mysterious Vault built by the lost Zeffonian civilization. The Haxion Brood also kept a captive oggdo and pitted it against Kestis in their arena on Ordo Eris. Later, in 9 BBY, Kestis would also face the Spawn of Oggdo on Koboh, rumored to be a descendant of the original Oggdo Bogdo from Bogano.

Behind the scenes

Oggdos first appeared in the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment. In-game, they are enemies that the player can encounter on Bogano. The oggdos were not meant to be defeated the first time the player came across them. Early oggdo encounters involved other creatures and easy escapes, which was the design team's method of teaching the player that avoiding combat was a valid choice and sometimes the best decision in-game. Oggdo concept art was done by artist Jean-Francois Rey.
