Occupation of Wayland

The occupation of Wayland was the Galactic Empire's occupation of the planet Wayland. During the occupation, the Imperial engineers hollowed out Mount Tantiss. Meanwhile, the native Myneyrshi and Psadans joined forces in an attempt to defeat the invaders. The Myneyrshi soon found out that their crossbows, while powerful, were not strong enough to pierce Imperial battle armor. Dismissing the natives' primitive bows and spears, the Emperor's engineers began constructing a vast network of chambers deep in the bowels of the mountain and set up a maze of internal defenses. The Empire enslaved the planet's indigenous population and put them to work building an immense complex beneath Mount Tantiss. With the project complete, the engineers then withdrew.

The Emperor refused to attract unwanted attention with a defensive battalion of AT-ATs. Instead, Palpatine put Mount Tantiss under the protection of a Dark Jedi Guardian, and sealed the mountain. Eventually, according to the Psadan, the Guardian sought control over the natives of Wayland.

By the year 3 BBY, the Imperial Research Station 61 was established on the planet. There, Colonel Milosh Muhrlein, who was a commandant in charge of the station, began selling the technology that his staff developed on the black market as a means of maintaining a luxurious lifestyle that he otherwise could not afford. Muhrlein's shady dealings were eventually discovered by Imperial Intelligence Agent Jahan Cross, who Muhrlein attempted to bribe into silence. When Muhrlein's efforts failed, he attempted to kill Cross, but he was unsuccessful and died in the attempt.

The Imperial occupation of Wayland ended shortly after the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY.
