Munch-fungus

Munch-fungus was a species of edible mushroom that grew in abundance on the planet Ryloth, the Outer Rim homeworld of the Twi'lek people. Over the years, the indigenous Twi'leks found a multitude of uses for the flavorful fungus, from simply eating it raw to cooking it in various soups and stews, where the fungus' presence helped to cultivate a rich and hearty broth. Further, munch-fungus could be baked into Munch-fungus loaf, a traditional type of Twi'lek bread.

An Artiodac chef by the name of Strono Tuggs discovered munch-fungi during a trip to Ryloth, where he came to appreciate the wild mushrooms for their flavor and versatility. Tuggs was especially intrigued by their use in munch-fungus loaves, and eventually published a recipe for the traditional Twi'lek bread in a cookbook he authored during his time living at the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu.

Munch-fungus was first introduced to Star Wars canon in the 2019 cookbook Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was written by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. The fungus originated several years prior, first appearing in the Star Wars roleplaying game book Platt's Starport Guide, written by Peter M. Schweighofer and published by West End Games in February 1995.
