Thieves led by Rani Quanic attacked the Qua'Tahc mines in Af'El to steal the available meleenium. Quanic and her minions injured several agents of the New Republic. Mihalik swore to chase Quanic, and he immediately left Af'El in the Resolve. Because of this, General Airen Cracken was forced to put a warrant on his head because of unapproved military action. However, Mihalik was never seen or found again.
