It served as the headquarters for the Merson pirates, and was later taken over by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During the Clone Wars, the Grand Army of the Republic attempted to wrest control away from the Separatists; however, the CIS forces were five times what was expected, having augmented the native pirates extensively. The entire Republic ground force was crushed, while the orbiting transports were forced to flee.
