Melitto Sap Cake

Melitto Sap Cakes were a type of vegetarian cake with a dark garnish created by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs after he visited the Inner Rim world Li-Toran during the culinary tour of the galaxy that he took between 34 ABY and 35 ABY. He created the dish by using sweet and sticky sap from the bleeding rock organism found on Li-Toran—which was a popular food for the native Melitto species—to sweeten individual brown cornbreads that were then served in dark brown casings. Tuggs then described the cakes as leaving him breathless when publishing the recipe for them in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published in 35 ABY.

Melitto Sap Cakes were created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the cakes makes use of all-purpose flour, yellow cornmeal, granulated sugar, baking powder, kosher salt, buttermilk, vegetable oil, honey, a large egg, unsalted butter, orange zest, dried hibiscus flowers, and then warm honey for serving.
