Maul's father


Maul's father was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in the 2000 novel Star Wars Episode I Journal: Darth Maul, written by Jude Watson. While the father of Maul himself is not mentioned, the book contains references to Maul's parents. Maul's father was first directly mentioned in the 2012 novel Darth Plagueis, written by James Luceno.

Several sources, including Darth Plagueis, suggest that Maul's mother is the witch Kycina. However, the third issue of the Star Wars: Darth Maul—Son of Dathomir comic series, written by Jeremy Barlow and released on July 16, 2014, establishes Talzin as Maul's mother instead. As Son of Dathomir is the more recent source, this article assumes it takes precedence. In Darth Plagueis, upon having been asked by Darth Sidious as to the presence of Maul's father, Kycina responds that the father is dead by tradition. While Kycina herself was retconned, the information regarding Maul's father may still hold true, as it does not conflict with what Son of Dathomir establishes.
