While training at the Academy for Young Imperials on Lothal during the reign of the Galactic Empire, human Cadet Jai Kell wished for some maize rolls and Westhills butter to eat instead of the ration-squares he had been served.
Maize rolls were first mentioned in the young-readers novel Servants of the Empire: Rebel in the Ranks, which was written by Jason Fry and released in 2015.
