Maitell Base was the primary starport on Kashyyyk during the Second Galactic Civil War fought between the Galactic Alliance and Confederation. The starship facility also served as a place where visitors could become familiar with the native environment before traveling to Wookiee cities. When Kashyyyk was attacked in 40 ABY by Jacen Solo, the base served as the primary site from which missions were launched to control the forest fires.
