Lothal was the sun of the planet Lothal. Holshef, an elderly poet, enjoyed watching this sun set and the warmth it brought that ushered the winter out and the spring in. However, the pollution caused by the Empire's mining activities on the planet resulted in an unseasonable chill and fog at a time when normally spring would have been in full force.
