Behind the scenes

Although US/Imperial measurements, such as the foot and the inch, have been used in some Star Wars material, Star Wars mainly uses the metric system. Editor Tom Hoeler even once decided against using the word "inching" while promoting the novel The Living Force on Twitter because of the franchise's preference, which he admitted could be "a ridiculous line of thought" for what was a simple social media post. Hoeler also stated that editors would flag uses of the Imperial system to be replaced by the metric. By Hoeler's own admission, however, Star Wars creatives have never managed to create a metric version of "inching closer," with author John Jackson Miller even making a joke about how the phrase "centimetering ever closer" had never appeared as an alternative.
