In the scene, Merian is sat in a repulsorpod with Soma, Aldrete, and Antilles in the Galactic Senate Building on the planet Coruscant when Queen Padmé Amidala calls for a Vote of No Confidence in Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum. Antilles, who was named Bail Organa during production, then stands and seconds the motion.

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Merian was first mentioned and named in the reference book Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary, which was written by David West Reynolds and released on May 26, 1999.
