Laser cauterizers were used for emergency field surgery. When activated, a laser cauterizer fired a low-frequency laser that could be used to cauterize wounds and disinfect them. Laser cauterizers were capable of resealing major blood vessels.
Laser cauterizers were included in medpacs, including Biotech Industries' FastFlesh medpac and Chiewab's GLiS Emergency Medpac. The field cauterizer was a specific type of laser cauterizer manufactured by Nilar Med/Tech Corporation.
Ula Vii used a laser cauterizer, along with a bone stabilizer compound, to treat Larin Moxla when the later had four fingers severed by a Sith lightsaber.
