Behind the scenes

In the current canon, lantern birds were first introduced in the 2015 reference book Ultimate Star Wars. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the birds first appeared in The Adventures of Teebo: A Tale of Magic and Suspense, a 1984 novel written by Joe Johnston.
