Koltine was first mentioned in "Aliens in the Empire, Part 2: To a Traitor Go the Spoils," a 2007 Hyperspace article written by Abel G. Peña and Rich Handley. Although the 2008 reference book The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia placed Koltine within the Jahilid Drift, which was stated to be an Outer Rim Territories region, the 2009 book The Essential Atlas placed the Koltine system, and therefore Koltine itself, in grid square L-21 as part of Wild Space instead.
