Kicker was one of six positions in the sport of grav-ball. A specialized position, the kicker spent much of the time during the grav-ball game on the sidelines, being called in when the grav-ball team needed a kick-score or a trap-kick and would kick the to the other team as far down the grid as possible. The position required someone with good range.
Merei Spanjaf was chosen to be kicker on the same AppSci SaberCats team in which Zare Leonis was made center striker. The two bonded over grav-ball and became close.
