Kento Marek's hut

The hut that belonged to two former Jedi Knights, Kento Marek and his wife Mallie, was located in a Wookiee village on the planet Kashyyyk. Their son, Galen Marek, was raised in the hut until the deaths of both his parents. The mother perished in combat against a group of Trandoshans; the father was killed by the Sith Lord Darth Vader inside the hut, where he discovered Galen's existence. Sensing the orphaned boy's powerful connection to the Force, Vader took Marek from his home and trained him to become a Sith assassin.

The hut that served as the home of the Marek family was located on the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk. Kento Marek, a former Jedi General in the Clone Wars, deserted the Jedi Order and married a fellow Jedi Knight, a Human female named Mallie. The couple disappeared into hiding in order to escape the war and eventually settled on Kashyyyk where Mallie gave birth to a son called Galen Marek. During the early stages of the Great Jedi Purge, the family continued to live under the protection of the Wookiees, while the remaining Jedi were hunted throughout the galaxy by the newly-risen Galactic Empire.

The hut was home to all three Mareks until Mallie was killed while defending the Wookiees from Trandoshan hunters. Her husband and son continued to live on Kashyyyk until Imperial forces attacked the planet in a full-scale invasion. In the midst of the fighting, the Sith Lord Darth Vader killed Kento Marek in combat. Vader also discovered Galen, whose powerful affinity to the Force convinced the Dark Lord to train the child as his own secret apprentice.

Years later, Galen Marek—by then a Sith assassin codenamed Starkiller—discovered the ruins of his former home. Although he had long since forgotten his origins, the apprentice experienced a Force vision of the events that surrounded the fall of Kashyyyk and his Master's involvement in the death of Kento Marek.

In 2 BBY, the hut became the site where the Alliance to Restore the Republic was officially recognized in defiance of the Empire. In honor of the apprentice, who died for the Rebellion as a redeemed Jedi, Senator Leia Organa proposed for that Alliance adopt the Marek family crest as their emblem, which she referred to as a symbol of hope for the galactic population.
