During the attack on the prison ship Restitution by Pan Eyta, former Tempest Runner of the Nihil marauders, in 231 BBY, imprisoned Tempest Runner Lourna Dee identified of the attackers as a Reeman from Katarr, having previously worked with one. Katarr also shared its name with the Katarr adumbrature, a text that Jedi Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn assisted the Jedi Master and Oorallon with studying around 58 BBY.
Katarr was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in the name of the Katarr adumbrature in the audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, written by Cavan Scott and published on April 30, 2019. The spelling of its name was confirmed in the audio drama's script release on October 1 of that year, while Katarr was confirmed to be a location in the 2021 audio drama The High Republic: Tempest Runner, written by Scott as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I.
