A jump-by-jump journey was a means of traveling through hyperspace from an origin to a destination in relatively short jumps of a few star systems at a time. The chaotic physical phenomena of the Unknown Regions made jump-by-jump journeys necessary to avoid supernovae, pulsars, nebulas and other hazards when a Force-sensitive navigator could not be used. Traveling jump-by-jump was considerably slower than Force-based navigation through hyperspace.
During the Galactic Civil War, the Hellion's Dare performed jump-by-jump evasive maneuvers in the Oridol Cluster to evade the Galactic Empire.
