Publisher's summary

For over a thousand generations, the Jedi have been the peacekeepers of the galaxy - but now, at the dawn of the Clone Wars, they find themselves in a new role: generals in the Army of the Republic. As Mace Windu, one of the Jedi's greatest warriors, leads a small unit of Jedi into battle shortly after the war begins, the Jedi must make peace with their new role, or be lost to the violence around them!

Plot summary

The comic opens with a conversation between Jedi Masters Mace Windu and a hologram Ki-Adi-Mundi, shortly after the First Battle of Geonosis. The Jedi discuss the new role of the Order with impending war. Windu then addresses the full Jedi Council, and after a brief conversation with Yoda is officially assigned a mission by Plo Koon, spying on the Separatists on Hissrich. Windu enumerates the Jedi he has selected to accompany him - Kit Fisto, Prosset Dibs, and Rissa Mano. After the meeting, Windu voices his concerns about his ability to lead after losing so many at Geonosis, but Yoda encourages him to not doubt the Force or himself.

En route to Hissrich, Mano disguises the ship's signature while Fisto speaks to Dibs, who voices similar concerns about Jedi not being meant for war. Windu tries to counsel him and ignore his own doubts, saying that they are where they are meant to be. Windu then briefs the other Jedi on the particulars of the mission, before they jump out of hyperspace and begin the infiltration. Windu and Dibs speak about Dibs' concerns from earlier, while Mano and Fisto speak about Mano's fascination with Windu.

Ditching the stealth, Windu and Mano team up and surprised B-1 battle droids as Dibs and Fisto go to attack super battle droids from a different direction. After taking out the group of droids, they find themselves surrounded by unknown creatures. The comic ends with the introduction of AD-W4, a mercenary droid who is monitoring the activity of the Jedi strike force.

Continuity

Jedi of the Republic – Mace Windu, Part I first introduced the Jedi character Prosset Dibs, who later appeared in as the "Tenth Brother" in the fourth arc of Charles Soule's Darth Vader comic series.
