Hunt for Sylar Saris

The hunt for Sylar Saris was undertaken by bounty hunter Fennec Shand around 18 BBY. Shand enlisted the help of Bad Batch members Hunter and Wrecker for the job after meeting difficulty catching Sylar Saris without a crew. Having received a tip on her target's location, Shand and the two clones journeyed to the planet Veelo.

Prelude

As part of their ongoing Project Necromancer, the Galactic Empire was intent on capturing the young clone Omega after the recent revelation that her blood was suitable for their experiments. Unaware of this reason, Clone Force 99 decided they needed to know more about why the Empire was after Omega. The only information they had was that the Empire's experiments involved something referred to as an M-count. The Batch was aided by the pirate Phee Genoa who gathered information and discovered the Empire had been hiring bounty hunters to retrieve M-count targets. However, Genoa was still unsure as to what this truly meant. Omega suggested asking Fennec Shand, who Hunter recounted had tried to abduct Omega in the past. Although they considered Shand to be dangerous, Hunter confessed she may be their only option. Genoa proposed that she could track down Shand for them. Believing that Shand was not to be trusted around Omega, Hunter and Wrecker agreed to meet her alone.

In need of intel, Hunter and Wrecker strike a deal with Shand.

Hunter and Wrecker traveled to Tanda's Cantina aboard Suria space station, where they found Shand making a deal with a . Shand remembered the clones from their previous encounter. They mentioned that they were looking for intel, so Shand told the Rodian client to leave before inquiring further. Hunter revealed that they were interested in learning about the Empire's M-count targets. Shand had not gone after one of the targets herself, but said she might know of someone who had. Asserting that this information would cost them, Shand offered the clones a job with her hunting down a bounty. She stated that if they helped her, she would get them what they wanted to know, provided she kept all the payment. Having made this deal, the three of them set out on their mission.

Venture on Veelo

The trio set out in Shand's starship, the Outcast. During their transit, Shand informed Hunter and Wrecker of their target, Sylar Saris. Known as the "Slayer of Ordo Eris," Saris had carried out jobs for the Haxion Brood and as such had become wanted by various powerful individiuals. Other bounty hunters had tracked Saris prior to Shand, but never returned.

According to a tip Shand had received, Saris was hiding on the planet Veelo. When they arrived, Shand equipped herself with a breath mask and advised the clones to wear their helmets, as the air on Veelo was lethal. They exited the ship at the Veelo docks, where multiple DUM-series pit droids were working. Shand asked one of the droids for a boat that was fast and would not capsize, and the group was led to a hydroskiff. The droid requested ten credits for the ride, a price that Shand was displeased with. The droid altered the cost and the crew left the docks in search of Saris. On their journey, Shand warned the others of the hostile nature of the waters.

After some time, Hunter noticed some underwater mines in the river. Shand stopped the boat and ordered him and Wrecker get in the water to inspect them. The presence of the mines was a sign to Shand that they were headed in the right direction. Hunter suggested finding another route, but Shand thought continuing on would give them the element of surprise. Hunter and Wrecker consequently disarmed the explosives. As they got to the last couple of mines, Hunter observed some gryzards heading towards them. Shand starting blasting the creatures as Hunter and Wrecker scrambled to get back on board the skiff. However, Hunter was grabbed by a gryzard and pull underneath the water. Wrecker jumped in to save his brother and began wrestling with the beasts. Eventually, they both returned to their boat, and after staving off more gryzards that had jumped on board, the group carried on with their search.

The hunt continued into the night, whereupon the water currents had become too calm for Hunter to discern the direction they needed to go. Annoyed, Shand critized the two clones' capability. Wrecker retaliated by recalling how Omega had once escaped from Shand, to which Shand reminded him of how they had failed to prevent Omega from being captured by the Empire. Shand questioned what happened regarding Omega, and the reasoning for the clones' willingness to work with her regarding their past. She also clarified that the bounty she had on Omega had been called off by her client, who seemingly believed Omega would have been safer with the Batch. The clones' noted Shand's readiness to work for anyone as long as she got paid, with Hunter saying that money was not everything. Shand then remarked on their lack of wealth. Looking at their surroundings, Hunter concluded that someone had passed through their location.

Saris discovered

As their party ventured further, Hunter spotted a hideout built into a tree. Shand specified she needed Saris alive. She stayed with the boat as lookout, while the two clones inspected the area, though Wrecker disparaged her for making them take all the risk. Hunter scaled a ladder that led him to what at first appeared to be an empty room. However, Saris had clung to the ceiling and was lying in wait. He pounced on Hunter and the two battled one-on-one. Hunter attempted to stun Saris multiple times, though Saris managed to evade the blasts, and eventually pinned Hunter down by the neck. Wrecker then barged in and knocked Saris back, but Saris sneaked around and hit Wrecker before retreating down a hatch underground. Wrecker informed Shand that their target had fled, so she got out of the hydroskiff to investigate.

Saris had made his way back outside and, seeing the now empty boat, attempted to make his getaway. To his surprise, Shand had cut a wire on the skiff, preventing the criminal from escaping. Shand confronted Saris, but once again he slipped past her and headed for another nearby vessel. The escape attempt was interrupted when Wrecker tackled him to the ground. In retaliation, Saris spat green acid onto Wrecker's helmet and swiped his vibroblade. As Saris slashed at Wrecker, Hunter and Shand arrived and fired stun blasts at Saris. After multiple shots, the insectoid finally went down. Wrecker picked him up and the three returned to Shand's ship.

Aftermath

Back on Suria space station, Shand prepared to part ways with the clones. Hunter inquired about the information she owed them, but Shand disclosed that she did not yet have it. Instead, she planned to get the information for them after delivering Saris to her client. Hunter contested this as it was not part of their prior agreement, so Shand simply stated that they could either fight her or trust her. They allowed Shand to leave in hopes that she would fulfill her promise. On board her ship, Shand contacted Asajj Ventress to tell her about the clones she had just worked with. Shand asked about the M-count bounties and said that Ventress could likely track the Bad Batch down without difficulty.
