Holo-mirror

A holo-mirror was a device that could generate a silent holographic reflection of its user that mimicked their actions. During the time the Evereni pirate leader Marda Ro owned the Gaze Electric starship, a holo-mirror was installed in its throne. Around 379 BBY, Ro used the holo-mirror to view a reflection of herself after she became covered with a Jedi's blood, and when she screamed at her assistant Alirya to go away, the holo-mirror mimicked Ro's expression. She later mentioned the holo-mirror in a journal entry she recorded for her descendants, which her great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to by 252 BBY.

Description

Holo-mirrors were devices that could generate a holographic reflection of their user. The reflection imitated the user's gestures and movement but did not reproduce sound.

During the time Marda Ro—the Evereni founder of a group of pirates who would eventually become the Nihil—was the owner of the ship known as the Gaze Electric, her throne in the ship's throne hall was equipped with a holo-mirror. Around 379 BBY, Ro used the throne's holo-mirror to inspect herself while covered with the red blood of a Jedi she had assaulted on an astronomical object. Seeing the reflection of the blood splattered on her white shawl and suit made her recall how soft and easy to tear the Jedi's flesh was. When she screamed at her assistant Alirya for interrupting her, the holo-mirror's holographic reflection copied her expression but did not replicate the sound.

Later, Ro mentioned the holo-mirror in a message she recorded for her descendants. By 252 BBY, during his youth, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to her journal, including the entry where the holo-mirror was mentioned.

Behind the scenes

A holo-mirror appeared in a flashback in the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," written by Tessa Gratton and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.
