The Gee-Pees were a small, highly mobile fleet that were often given specialist assignments such as interception and seizure, and air-to-surface bombardment. The fleet spent most of its time on patrols through the sector, but this duty was secondary to any special assignment. It was not uncommon for the Ground Pounders to break off a patrol to respond to an emergency within the sector.
