Great ReSynchronization

The Great ReSynchronization was a 60-year-long notation system that was established in 35 BBY by the Republic Measures & Standards Bureau to recalibrate the disparate dating systems used by the Galactic Republic. In 25 ABY, it was disbanded and reorganized by the New Republic into the Galactic Standard Calendar. It was since used as a zero year for the dating system; thus, the Naboo Crisis takes place in year 3, the Separatist Crisis begins in year 11, Battle of Geonosis takes place in the year 13, the Great Jedi Purge in the year 16, Battle of Yavin in the year 35, and the Battle of Endor in the year 39. The Seventh Battle of Ruusan occurred in the year 965 BrS.

Dates using the ReSynchronization were written in the following format:

Dates after ReSynchronization did not include trailing characters. Dates occurring before the ReSynchronization were followed by "BrS," for Before ReSynchonization:

In 13:5:28, debates occurred within the Republic regarding which zero-point calendar system should be used, with the ReSynchronization thirteen years ago and the Ruusan Reformation being popular contenders.

The dating system introduced with the Great ReSynchronization was still used during the Imperial period, although some Imperials preferred to use the establishment of the Galactic Empire (19 BBY) as the starting point. The Great ReSynchronization system eventually became obsolete under the New Republic and was replaced in 25 ABY with the Galactic Standard Calendar, centered around the Battle of Yavin (0 ABY).

Behind the scenes

The dating scheme for the Great ReSynchronization was introduced in HoloNet News by Pablo Hidalgo to retcon the 1994 reference book, A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, Second Edition, Revised and Expanded establishment of 35 BBY as the end of the Clone Wars and subsequent notation used by West End Games in sources such as 1997's Cynabar's Fantastic Technology: Droids.
