The Great Journey was a trip under taken by all members of the Je'daii Order as Je'daii Journeyers.
The Great Journey was a ritualistic pilgrimage that was canonized circa 36,019 BBY during the tenure of Je'daii Temple Master Nordia Gral, the first leader of the Je'daii Academy at Padawan Kesh. Upon completing their studies at the Academy, young adult Padawans emerged as Je'daii Journeyers and set out from their homes to explore the planet Tython, grow in the Force, and push themselves to the edge of their abilities. Journeyers would set out on foot, beast of burden, or machine, traveling alone or in small groups between each of the nine Je'daii Temples of the planet. The Great Temples were spread across four continents, hundreds of thousands of kilometers apart, and located in a multiple of environs, both dangerous and fascinating. Journeyers would face vicious beasts and deadly plants; violent Force Storms and anomalous weather patterns; treacherous terrain and unfathomable depths.
While required to visit each Temple, travel was unstructured and how to get to each Temple and in what order was left up to the discretion of the Journeyer. Because of this, a Journey could take months or even years to complete. At each Temple, Journeyers would seek out a Master to oversee their studies. Training would be done in groups or one on one, with a Temple Master presiding over final displays of talent. The Temples offered a broad range of studies that were open to Journeyers to explore what interested them. This was meant to not only broaden a student's mind, but also help them discovering their calling. On Lanoree Brock's Great Journey, she excelled at Qigong Kesh in the Silent Desert, proved talented in self-defense on the slopes of Stav Kesh, but only truly discovered herself at Anil Kesh under the tutelage of Master Dam-Powl in the alchemy laboratories. Discoveries like this were the hallmark of the Great Journey, allowing future Je'daii to step into their own expression of the Force before being promoted to the rank of Ranger.
The Great Journey first appeared in Force Storm 1, the first issue in the Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi comic book series, and identified as such in the 2013 novel Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void, written by Tim Lebbon. The 2016 Star Wars Roleplaying sourcebook Nexus of Power misidentified the Great Journey as the "Padawan Trial" and incorrectly stated that Padawans took part in the journey instead of Je'daii Journeyers.
