The Grand Daern was the chief executive of the Marasan government, the Mindnet. Like all Marasans, the Grand Daern was a cyborg who could communicate with other Marasans through sophisticated computer implants. The Grand Daern's job was to collect data from the lesser elected officials, the Electnodes, swiftly process it, and make decisions accordingly. Due to the swift communication and computation allowed by Marasan computer implants, this system worked very efficiently.
Grand Daern Derra'makin was the last Marasan to hold the position before the Imperial conquest of Marasai and the Marasa Nebula. He was forced to flee and hide on one of the colony worlds in the Nebula.
